This week, the 2023 comes to a close as the WSOP Main Event takes a week to crown a world champion, and several other events come to a conclusion. We’ve added on not one but two extra dates to our weekly preview too, as this year’s WSOP as the Horseshoe and Paris casinos in Las Vegas play host to players of all levels.
All the From No Limit Hold’em to PLO, bounty to turbo, the final nine days of the 2023 World Series of Poker is going to go out with a bang!
Who Could Claim Glory in Continuing Events?
There are only two events in progress as the 42nd day of action in the 2023 WSOP kicks off. The first is the $777 Lucky 7’s Event #77 event, which at the time of going to press, has 146 players remaining. The other, of course, is the WSOP Main Event, which went into Day 4 with 1,517 players still in seats, 10 places before the money bubble bursts and everyone is guaranteed to win $15,000.
Everyone wants to win the $12.1 million top prize, the biggest in Main Event history. Frontrunners to do so after three days at the felt include Chance Kornuth, Chris Brewer, Nicholas Rigby and the 2003 WSOP Main Event champion Chris Moneymaker, who is in the top 20% of players on the leaderboard 20 years exactly after changing poker forever.
H.O.R.S.E. and No Limit High Rollers Under Starters Orders
There are several big-ticket events happening in the last week, and two of them are a couple of the biggest. On Monday, the $25,000 High Roller H.O.R.S.E. event takes place, which will feature some of the biggest players in the world and certainly the likes of Daniel Negreanu, who is still hunting a seventh WSOP bracelet and a first in Vegas in 15 years.
On Wednesday, the $50,000 No Limit Hold’em High Roller takes place and potentially offers the final chance to professionals seeking to win a WSOP title and bag a seven-figure top prize to boot. Could players such as Phil Ivey or Shaun Deeb show up and take it down? The latter is very much in the running for the WSOP Player of the Year award with just a dozen or so events to come.
Hall of Fame Bounty and Online Trio of Events
The final few days of the World Series feature some of the events that so far we haven’t seen. Making late entries on the schedule are some real crowd-pleasers. On Thursday, the $1,979 Poker Hall of Fame Bounty event begins, with one particular double-champion, the late, great Doyle Brunson sadly noticeable by his absence after passing away earlier this year.
There are plenty of online events taking place this week, with four in the bank if you prefer your poker online at WSOP.com. Taking place in NLHE 6-Max, Freezeout, Summer Saver and Lucky 7’s formats, there are going to be plenty of big winners in the final stretch of this year’s World Series of Poker.
It’s the last week for buying and selling action of the World Series of Poker. If you’re looking to spread the risk or save your summer, then head to our PokerStake staking platform, it couldn’t be simpler to use!
