The 54th annual World Series of Poker kicks off this week in Las Vegas, and with some of the series highlights taking place across the first seven days, a total of three online events and 12 live events will take place at the Horseshoe Las Vegas, Paris Casino and online at WSOP.com.
Players will battle for gold across 95 bracelet events in Las Vegas, including one of the most prestigious bracelets on offer this summer – the Heads Up No-Limit Hold’em Championship.
Casino Employees Lift Curtain in Traditional Opener
The first event to kick off starts before May is over, and at least according to the seasonal calendar, before Summer even begins. The $500-entry Casino Employees event is open to those who work behind the scenes in the poker industry and is sure to provide one of the most heartwarming stories of the series.
Traditionally, it’s an unknown player who bags the first six-figure score and this year’s opener is sure to set the pulse racing. In a break from tradition, however, there’s another event on the same day, with the $25,000-entry High Roller Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em taking place on the same day, although that event takes three days to complete rather than two.
The next day sees the Mystery Millions kick off, with more bounty fun giving players of all levels the chance to grab headlines whether they win the event or not. It’s all about pulling the biggest bounty, and the event’s four opening flights take place across the first week. Also kicking off on Wednesday 31st May is the freeroll Tournament of Champions, where WSOP and WSOP Circuit winners clash at the felt in pursuit of glory.
Dan Smith Looks to Retain Heads-Up Title
Having broken his WSOP Duck in 2022, Dan ‘Cowboy’ Smith will be looking to win back-to-back events as the $25,000 Heads Up Championship takes place from Friday June 2nd. Taking place over three pulsating days of action, we’re sure to be given more moments of drama such as the one we enjoyed in 2022 between Phil Hellmuth, the 16-time WSOP bracelet winner and Eric Persson Maverick Casino boss and maverick at the felt.
The first online event of the summer takes place on Thursday June 1st, as the $333-entry Triple Treys Summer Tip-Off will see players hoop… ahem, hope to win their first bracelet via WSOP.com. Players used to multi-tabling (at the live and online felt simultaneously, we mean) will be favorites to make the money in this one as there are three live events in action that day including the first Limit Hold’em event of this year’s WSOP.
Two More Online Events
With 12 live bracelet events and three online events taking place in the first week of the 54th annual World Series, it’s a frenetic beginning to a marathon festival of poker fun. The Dealer’s Choice Championship is early on the schedule in 2023, with Event #10 kicking off on Saturday June 3rd, lasting three days at Horseshoe and Paris as the two casinos are known this year.
There are two online events taking place on Sunday June 4th, with the $500-entry Bankroll Builder and $1,000 Deepstack events providing players with another chance of entering a bracelet event and winning gold on the same day.
Also on Sunday is the $5,000-entry Freezeout NLHE 8-Max event, which this year kicks off at 2pm local time and lasts three days. Late registration only lasts for 12 levels of that one, with 15 levels to be played on Day 1, so make sure you don’t miss registration on Day 1 for that one.
Here’s a look at all the events taking place in the first seven days of the 2023 World Series of Poker.
