Players of all levels have been enjoying using PokerStake in recent months. With the forthcoming WSOP Super Main Event sending hundreds of players into what might be the juiciest tournament of all-time, the big poker events just keep on coming. One player who is making the most of the relatively new opportunity to sell poker action easily and securely is Jeremy Hamey.
After his dream wedding, the insurance brokerage owner and poker player has recently been devoting more and more time to the game and it is paying dividends. With some great results in lower buy-in events, Hamey is stepping up his efforts to climb a unique Money List on The Hendon Mob, and he told us all about his poker journey so far… and the exciting things to come.
Climbing the Ranks
“I am a product of the Moneymaker boom; I was looking for a way to be competitive – tournament poker was it.”
Jeremy Hamey’s recent record in ranking live events in terms of three-figure buy-ins is very strong. Now over six figures in lifetime live poker tournament earnings, Hamey is more consistent than ever. He told us how he’s managed to do it.
“The past two years I have gone from playing daily tourneys to bigger buy-in tourneys,” he says. “I’ve found a lot of success playing $500-$5,000 buy-in tourneys and even went deep in the $10,000 WSOP Main Event.”
Jeremy’s mindset to a poker tournament hasn’t changed, but his commitment to being a professional poker player has. He’s got greater belief in his ability against a higher level of competition.
“My insurance brokerage company is my first priority, but that doesn’t require a tremendous amount of daily upkeep. I have had my business, Hamey Financial Inc., for 25 years and am fortunate to have a large client base and partnerships with other great firms. I am a product of the Moneymaker boom; I was looking for a way to be competitive after my college basketball career of playing and coaching ended. Tournament poker was certainly it.”
Jeremy Hamey’s ranking results may currently have him as the 21,827th best player of all-time on The Hendon Mob but in his home state of Alaska, he sits in 23rd place with over $222,000 in winnings. Adam Hendrix is top of that Alaska State leaderboard on £6.7 million.
“Alaska doesn’t have casinos but it does have many places to play and some really strong players,” Jeremy says. “We mostly all know each other and support our success. I still go up there two or three times a year and reconnect while I am up there. Adam Hendrix is an absolute crusher and Alaska’s best for sure. But I plan on climbing the Alaskan rankings to get close to him!”
The Year of the Jeremy
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Jeremy has been bouncing off the success of other players called Jeremy, too. Both Jeremy ‘JBex’ Becker and Jeremy Ausmus, have enjoyed profitable periods of huge success over the past 11 months, leading to Jeremy christening it The Year of the Jeremy.
“It is the ‘Year of the Jeremy’!” he laughs. “I had several bets with friends choosing Jeremy Becker over Landon’ Tice in the challenge this summer. I certainly think of myself as a ‘street’ player having played thousands of daily tournaments. That 10,000-hours approach has me confident against the solvers or ‘GTO’ approach. I agreed with Daniel Negreanu that Becker would prevail and was glad to win that bet. Plus, Jeremy Ausmus just crushed all summer! Then, with my success I just started using that phrase all the time. I have people come up to me and say, ‘Year of the Jeremy!’ all the time now, it’s so fun.”
Jeremy plays in Las Vegas plenty but also loves taking on players in Los Angeles, having moved to Southern California (or SoCal) 15 years ago.
“I love it,” he tells us. “I got married this year and found an amazing partner that allows me to play a lot of tournament poker. The players in SoCal are spoiled with great tournament options all the time with a series being run almost all the time. My home ‘office’ is the Gardens Casino as their dailies are the best.”
Jeremy counts people like the team behind the LA Poker Roundup Podcast as his friends in the area and feels a big part of the poker community.
“More and more, I follow the bigger buy-in and guarantee tourneys around. I’m certainly comfortable locally but there is just nothing like playing in Las Vegas, chasing the dream of a huge score.”
Dreaming of the Main Event
Like so many other poker players, Jeremy Hamey dreams of one day becoming world champion and winning the WSOP Main Event. He’s played in three World Championships to date and reached the top 1,000 players in 2024.
“Each year I have gone farther and farther with this year making the money,” he says. “It is so gruelling but I absolutely love it. There were some really tough spots and decisions during the tourney. I love how poker tourneys are always different each day. Deepstack poker is my best style for sure and the thrill and excitement only grew each day. As I completed each day, I was getting messages and texts from friends and PokerStake investors. I was so happy to get everyone paid!”
Jeremy is very proud to have cashed in his first $10,000 event but he is pushing himself to earn more scores in five-figure buy-in events as he progresses in his ‘second’ career, telling us, ‘Next up is my first six-figure score!’
Buying and Selling the Action
As well as selling on PokerStake, Jeremy has bought pieces of great players too, such as Stephen Song in his recent High Roller victory. He credits the ease with which he can both buy and sell as key components of the appeal of PokerStake.
“I feel so fortunate and honored to be a part of PokerStake.” Says Jeremy. “I have gotten to know Josh Arieh and love everything he is doing. Being able to have a piece of the action with players you like and believe in is so rewarding and exciting. There is nothing more exciting that following a player in a tourney know you have a piece of their success. I got to enjoy this last with Stephen Song, someone I consider one of the best in the world right now. I multiplied my investment 20 times in that tourney!”
Being involved with other players and enjoying the social side of the game of poker is a crucial part of what makes PokerStake attractive to players such as Jeremy.
“I have made friends inside the PokerStake community from around the globe and get messages from my investors on my stakings. It feels so good to run deep in tourneys knowing your investors will be rewarded. I just listed some upcoming tournaments on PokerStake. We have the WSOP circuit events at Commerce Casino soon and put the two biggest tourneys on the site. I will probably go to Vegas for the WPT Wynn series next month as well. I can’t wait to buy and sell on PokerStake all the time!”
With over $55,000 of winnings in PokerStake backed events already, Jeremy Hamey is proving quite the sleeper pick for many poker investors. Don’t miss out on his latest packages, head straight to his staking page on PokerStake today.
