Dutch havojBoyd notched his second World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet win on Sunday night, taking down a $2,500 Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event (#23). Boyd earned $234,000 and bested a field of 384 players. Boyd’s first piece of hardware came four years ago in a $2,500 No Limit Hold’em Short-Handed contest and was good for nearly $500,000. Let’s take a look back at Event #23 of the WSOP.
Boyd (pictured) told WSOP officials following his big win on Sunday that he wasn’t content with just one bracelet in 2010: “That first gold bracelet was really special. This is very special, too. But that first one was a dream come true. But now I have a new dream – to win two bracelets in one year.” Boyd defeated Brian Meinders heads-up when his opponent got his final chips in pre-flop with A-8 against Boyd’s J-10. The door card was a jack and Boyd walked away with his second gold bracelet.
Also making the final table of the $2,500 Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event was Julian wh00selParmann, who took fourth place for $62,000. Parmann is a former mid-stakes PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) event winner and also owns a victory in the Full Tilt Poker $100 rebuy. Parmann was committed pre-flop and showed K-J, well out in front of the K-10 of Meinders. However, Meinders flopped a 10 and Parmann’s open-ended straight draw failed to materialize on the turn or river.
Here’s how the final six cashed out in Event #23:
1. Dutch havojBoyd – $234,065
2. Brian Meinders – $144,650
3. Albert Minnullin – $93,892
4. Julian wh00selParmann – $62,769

6. Al Barbieri – $30,399
A total of 3,289 players entered the latest $1,000 No Limit Hold’emevent (#24) and, after two starting days, 507 are left standing according to WSOP.com. There are a bundle of PocketFives.com members in the hunt, including Eric EFroFroehlich (47,325 chips, pictured), Andrew achenChen (38,425), J.D. BubbaKGBMcNamara (37,400), and Tristan Cre8iveWade (32,750). First place is scheduled to earn $503,000, so a monster payday is up for grabs for someone’s $1,000 investment. The event resumes with Day 2 on Monday at 2:30pm PT.
In Event #25 of the 2010 WSOP, the $10,000 Omaha High-Low Split Eight or Better World Championship, Las Vegas’ Michael Chow leads the way with 21 players remaining and holds a stack of 600,000.
