The Spanish poker player Elias Gutierrez likely travelled to Cyprus to play multiple European Poker Tour events with the intention of winning a famous ‘Spadie’ trophy. A week after landing in the Turkish territory of Northern Cyprus, Gutierrez has two titles and over $800,000 in winnings, after another astonishing victory against some of the best players in the world.
Mulder Spikes Andrian
It probably helps the EPT in general that a PokerStars Ambassador who is known for creating poker content is being so phenomenally successful at their own felt. Spanish poker professional and YouTuber Elias Gutierrez, known as ‘ZerosPoker’, who recorded a fascinating podcast interview with GGPoker’s Jeff Gross some time ago, locked up his second $25,000-entry High Roller win at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa last night as he won the $25,000 Super High Roller Second Chance event for $390,200.
There were 50 entries in the event, creating a prizepool of $1.2 million, with each buy-in worth $25,000 once again. Those numbers meant that only the seven-handed final table would be paid and it was a big name who bubbled the final table and the money. Czech professional Roman Hrabec has a great record in events of this size and will bounce from bubbling in eighth place when his on a board of wasn’t good enough to beat Teun Mulder’s which turned a set at the same time it gave the Czech ‘Bubble Boy’ his doomed pair.
The first player to leave the final table with profit was the Italian player Simone Andrian, who called off his stack with and was right to do so after the Dutchman Mulder had shoved pre-flop with . A flop of immediately set the Italian behind and after a on the turn, he was drawing to just two outs. Neither of the remaining queens in the deck fell on the river and the field was down to six.
Mokri and Mullur Make Their Bows
What seemed like seconds after Andrian’s elimination, only five players were in seats. Out in sixth for $81,000 was the Bulgarian Ognyan Dimov, who shoved pre-flop for just over a big blind with . Called by Mulder with , Dimov’s two overs didn’t catch as the board played out and Mulder further grew his chances of victory.
Elias Gutierrez began his march to glory when he took out the Norwegian Kayhan Mokri in fifth place for $102,000. All-in with , Mokri needed help against the of Gutierrez. A flop of provided no such assistance and after a and river, the Norwegian was on the rail and Gutierrez was gathering momentum.
Samuel Mullur took the lead four-handed but after an extended period of action where no-one busted, Mullur missed out on the podium himself for a result worth $132,100. All-in with , Mullur was dominated to defeat by Gutierrez’ , as a board of sent the Austrian home in fourth place, making several PokerStake investors plenty of money in the process.
Gutierrez Climbs National Rankings
Three-handed, the Gambian player Hassan Nashar departed for a score of $174,100. All-in with , he was desperately unlucky to depart as Gutierrez called it off with more chips and only to hit a wheel straight on the turn of a board showing .
Heads-up, Elias Gutierrez had a stack of 10,225,000 chips, far more than the 2,275,000 held by Teun Mulder. That proved immediately pivotal, as a board of prompted a shove from the Spanish player with . Mulder almost snap-called to his doom with as he claimed the runner-up score of $258,100.
For Elias Gutierrez, it was a second $25,000 event win inside a week, as he became Spain’s 25th most successful tournament player, increasing his lifetime winnings to over $1.3 million and moving him up into the top 25 on Spain’s all-time money list.
A week ago, he wasn’t inside the Top 100 of that list on The Hendon Mob.
