Dzmitry Urbanovich Wins PGT Mixed Games Series Event #4 for $179,000

The fourth event of the 2023 PokerGO Tour Mixed Games Series saw a stunning victory for Dzmitry Urbanovich, who beat Daniel Negreanu heads-up to complete a remarkable win worth $179,200. With players such as Max Hoffman, Anthony Zinno and John ‘World’ Hennigan all going close too, it was another great advert for mixed games at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA in Las Vegas.

Two Bust at the End of Day 1

The fourth event on the schedule of nine at the PGT Mixed Games Series saw a total of 56 entries as some of the stars of the poker world came together to do battle for a PGT trophy. The $10,200 8-Game event was no small fry tournament. With a top prize of $179,200 and bragging rights on the line, everyone was out to get the win.

Just eight players would make money, and it was a tense play down to that painful bubble with the current leader of the championship overall, Chino Rheem, just missing out on another cash, losing in PLO To Daniel Negreanu to miss the money by two places. Nine remained, one needed to go, and that man turned out to be the Argentinian player Andres Korn. Once again it was Kid Poker who took out the unfortunate player, this time in a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo as Korn was cut down by an eight-high straight.

Dylan Linde was eliminated in eighth place for a score of $22,400 as once again, the six-time WSOP bracelet winner Negreanu eliminated an opponent. Losing out in Razz, the talented Linde, who has had a book about mixed games, Mastering Mixed Games: Winning Strategies for Draw, Stud and Flop Games, published, was the third player in a row to bust to Kid Poker, who sat on top of the final seven by a long way with 3.3 million chips, a long way clear of his nearest challenger, Max Hoffman on 1,340,000.

A World of Pain for Johnny

When the final seven began, Negreanu started as he had ended the events preceding the final table. Taking a big pot off Max Hoffman, he piled up over half the chips in play and at the time, looked unassailable. A double elimination seriously trimmed the field as both John ‘World’ Hennigan and Andrew Kelsall both lost against Hoffman won a crucial three-handed pot. The Omaha Hi-Lo hand saw Hennigan’s two pair and Kelsall’s busted straight draw fall to Hoffman’s full house of jacks over nines.

Anthony Zinno was the next player to lose his tournament life as the multiple WPT and WSOP title winner won $44,800 in fifth place. Zinno lost to Arthur Morris in a hand of Pot Limit Omaha that saw Zinno’s pocket aces in the hole lose to Morris’ two-pair by the river. Hoffman’s resurgence was brief, however, as he lost a big pot in Limit Hold’em to concede a big pot and the chip lead to Dzmitry Urbanovich as the Polish player overtook Negreanu at the top of the chipcounts.

Hoffman struggled on, but eventually fell in No Limit Hold’em to the same player. Hoffman’s KdKh started his final hand ahead of Urbanovich’s Ad8d, but the flop of Ac6c5d set Hoffman behind, and the 3d turn and Tc river condemned the American to a fourth-place finish worth $56,000.

Kid Poker
Kid Poker came close, but he couldn’t get over the line to claim a PGT Mixed Games title.

Kid Poker Beaten by Young Foe

Arthur Morris clung onto his stack as long as he could, but eventually, bailed in third place for $78,400. In Omaha Hi-Lo, Morris lost with a lowly pair of sixes against Negreanu’s pocket kings in the hole that never needed to improve. That gave Kid Poker 4.2 million, exactly the same amount as Urbanovich held as the two players went into the final battle exactly level in chips.

Negreanu took the lead in Stud, but his younger opponent then flipped the script in Pot Limit Omaha and with 4.9 million to Negreanu’s 3.5 million, the final hand was about to play out. The chips all went in the middle on a board of Qc4c3d8h, with Urbanovich holding Qs7h6s5h for an open straight draw. Negreanu was leading with two pair, but a deuce on the river gave the Polish player a straight and that was enough to conclude the tournament.

After a thrilling finale, Urbanovich won the top prize of $179,200 as Negreanu was forced to settle for a second-place prize of $117,600. Kid Poker will come again, with five events still to play, with Urbanovich delighted to win his first PGT title, lifting the trophy with pride.
