There were ‘no days off’ for Dalton ‘daltonhb’ Hobold at the start of 2022 as the Brazilian online poker superstar produced impressive results on nearly every online poker operator all month long to edge out current #1-ranked Patrick Leonard and capture Online Player of the Month honors for January.
Hobold kept busy, racking up 154 in-the-money finishes in January for just over $438,000. He had eight five-figure scores including kicking off the month with a fourth-place finish in the January 3 GGPoker $300 Sunday Marathon for $13,052. He followed that up just one week later with a runner-up finish in the GGPoker $150 GGMasters, a freezeout, for $49,404 and 506.33 leaderboard points.
It didn’t take long for Hobold to pick up another nice score, winning outright the GGPoker $1,050 Sunday High Rollers Kick-Off for $28,719. However, he had to wait until the end of the month to pick up his monthly high score, finishing as the runner-up in the GGPoker $1,050 Monday Main Event for $51,713 and 387.52 points.
While all of those major scores took place on GGPoker, Hobold was all over the map when it came to picking up results. He was grinding MTT’s on PokerStars, PokerKing, partypoker, and 888poker and picking up leaderboard points on all of them. In the end, Hobold finished the month with 3,967 leaderboard points, enough to push him to a career-high Online Poker Ranking of #4 in the world.
Additionally, Hobold’s point total was just enough to deny current #1 in the world, Patrick ‘pleno1’ Leonard, another Online Player of the Month title. Leonard, who ended January with 3,883 points (just 84 points less than Hobold) may have missed out on the title, but, still had an impressive month of results.
Leonard didn’t waste any time in January, earning his first five-figure score on January 1. However, his first qualifying score of note came the next day when he finished in fourth place in the GGPoker WSOP Circuit $1,050 Sunday Kick-Off for $14,268 and 167.45 points. Just three days later, he picked up two of his biggest results of the month. On was a bronze medal in Event #74-H of the PokerStars Winter Series for $23,135 and 233.64 points. The same day, he bested the 968-entry field of the WSOPC $365 GIANT for $46,426 and another 576.30 points.
While those were nice additions to the bankroll, Leonard’s month was made on January 11 when he took down the PokerStars Winter Series $5,200 NLHE High Roller for $132,608 and 777.82 points, a score that ranks as the eighth-highest of his storied online career. In total, Leonard wrapped January with 113 results for just under $493,000. It should be noted that Leonard was on his grind right up until January 17 when things slowed down for him, after that he produced just four cashes to finish the month.
Rounding out the top three was Luciano ‘LucianoHollanda’ Santos de Hollanda who finished the month with 3,630 leaderboard points and currently sits at a career-high ranking of #29 in the world.
Santos de Hollanda racked up seven five-figure scores including a third-place finish on January 2 in Event #54-H of the PokerStars Winter Series for $45,056 and 348,93 points, good enough to crack the top 10 scores of his career. He picked up his largest points total of the month with a victory in the WSOPC Series $525 Bounty Hunter for $16,267 and 426.32 points.
The rising Brazilian star finished January with 141 cashes, good for $272,413.
