A massive field of 3,289 players turned out for Event #24 of the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP), a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament. Now, just nine remain and leading the way is JD BubbaKGB McNamara, who works for the parent company of PocketFives.com. He’s assured a payday of at least $38,000 and will vie for a top prize of over $500,000 when play resumes at 2:30pm PT on Wednesday. Let’s recap all of the action from Tuesday at the 2010 WSOP.

McNamara entered the day as one of the short stacks, but quickly made his presence known. He sent Dean Schankin to the rails in 26th place after his A-K out-raced pocket tens. Then, McNamara doubled up with pocket aces against the pocket kings of James Jeffrey to move to 856,000 in chips. McNamara promptly dispatched of Yordan Mitrentsov in 19th place after his pocket kings held against A-K. The Canadian finished Tuesday’s session at 2.39 million in chips, just edging out Kiet Tuan’s second place tally of 2.31 million:

1. JD BubbaKGBMcNamara – 2,393,000
2. Kiet Tuan – 2,311,000
3. Blake Kelso – 1,166,000
4. John Tolbert – 925,000
5. David Cai – 844,000
6. Denis Murphy – 789,000
7. Greg Pohler – 660,000
8. Michael Gross – 535,000
9. Jeffrey Tebben – 466,000

McNamara took time out of his evening to address his fans lending support in a thread in Off Topic: “Thanks for all the support… it’s great knowing I have this many people behind me. I’ve played my absolute best so far and that’s what I plan on doing tomorrow. Everything else is out of my control and I’m not too worried about anything but playing solid poker. Hopefully things go my way at the FT.” McNamara has never cashed in the WSOP.

Playing down to 15 competitors on Tuesday was Event #26, $2,500 No Limit Hold’em Six-Max. Appearing in third place on the leaderboard is Jeff jpapola Papola (pictured), who owns a stack of 797,000 chips. He’s about 500,000 behind chip leader Steve Cowley and, in one of the more diverse fields we’ve seen so far, seven countries are represented in the final 15 players. Papola doubled up Tyler Witteman late in the day when his A-K could not draw out on pocket queens, which sent his stack diving below 400,000. However, he rebounded to end play and now sits in prime shape to bank the $630,000 top prize.

Also remaining in the hunt in Event #26 is Justin Boosted JSmith (pictured), who holds 641,000 chips entering the final day of play. Smith finished third in the World Poker Tour (WPT) Bellagio Cup last year for $464,000 and took second to Victory Pokerpro Alec trahehoTorelli in the Main Event of the second ever Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) for $175,000.
