What Happened in Triton Poker Series Vietnam Events #11 – #15?

The final events of the 2023 Triton Poker Series in Vietnam produced five different winners from countries such as Canada and China as stars such as Sam Greenwood swept the board and starred at the felt. The Hoiana Resort & Golf was the ultra-glamorous setting for the event series, with events in No Limit Hold’em and Short Deck bringing some of the best poker players in the world together to battle for glory… and millions of dollars.

Tang Antes Up as Chidwick Scores Silver Again

Danny Tang is a bona fide world star of the game and having learned much of his knowledge about poker while living in England, it will have given the former Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham player enormous satisfaction to have beaten the best of British. Claiming $427,000 for the victory, Tang’s heads-up opponent was Stephen Chidwick, the most successful British tournament player in history, who won his second runner-up prize of the series, this time for $310,000.

Costing $25,000 to play, the event was No Limit Short Deck Ante Only and welcomed 57 entries, eight of whom made the money.  The player who min-cashed was Justin Bonomo, who was happy to add yet more profits to a poker tournament haul that has seen him recently top the All-Time Money List with over $60 million in live earnings in ranking events. Bonomo may only have mopped up the $57,000 min-cash, but it’s yet another cash in a tournament career thus far unmatched by his peers.

Others to cash included Mike Watson (6th for $91,200) and Isaac Haxton, who second consecutive cash earned him another $117,000 in a year which he has so far made his own, winning two majors and totalling over $3 million in tournament winnings.

That meant a top prize of $695,000 and that was snapped up by Mike ‘Sir Watts’ Watson, with the Canadian claiming his first title of the series after beating Isaac Haxton, who came second for $500,000. British player Michael Zhang came third for $320,000, and there was another fine result for Jason Koon, as he came in fifth for $187,000.

With a total of 28 entries, the prizepool of $560,000 was also divided between two American players and two Malaysians. Yeu Wei Hsiang min-cashed for $53,200, while Seth Davies (4th for $65,800) and Isaac Haxton (3rd for $91,000) both missed out on the heads-up.

Lun Loon was the man who made it to the final heads-up, but came second for $143,000, with Greenwood taking home the $207,000 top prize and the last trophy of a spectacular series. Across a memorable fortnight, the Triton Poker Series has shown Vietnam is a great destination for live poker and PokerStake players, both buying and selling, have made money for fans of players such as Michael Soyza and Daniel Smiljkovic.
