PokerStars SCOOP Main Event Kicks Off

Sunday marks the finale of the 2010 PokerStarsSpring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). The three-tiered Main Event kicks off at 5:00pm ET today and will feature a total of $9 million in guaranteed prize money. Yes, $9 million. Think of it like six Sunday Millions all rolled into one day. Among those who emerged victorious on Saturday in the tournament series was Bill itbdoneDelSanto, who triumphed over the competition in a $215 HORSE event (#36) for $31,000. Heads-up, the Rhode Island native bested Marius SpokeyHogtun, a Norwegian who banked $22,000.

In the high-stakes version of Event #36, a field of 134 players turned out for a $2,100 HORSE tournament. The top 16 finished in the money and PokerStars member Steve muggylicious Sung defeated newly minted Victory Pokerpro James Andy McLEOD Obst. The tournament ended during Razz play and Obst walked away with $45,000. He’s a Triple Crown winner and, since the new year began, Obst has taken down the Titan Poker$250,000 Guaranteed and Full Tilt Poker Friday Night Fight for a combined $87,000. Here’s how the final table shook out:

A three-way deal ended matters in the high-stakes version of Event #34 ($5,200 Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max). Once the chop was forged, gavz101busted Entropy xx in third place for $110,000 and Hernan hn kakaroto Novick (pictured at right) in second place for $130,000. Novick hails from Uruguay and final tabled the Sunday 500 two months ago for $21,000. He also finished second in a $162 Pot Limit Omaha Rebuy for $46,000 one week ago.

Also final tabling the $5,200 Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max event was DonkP, who is fresh off capturing a SCOOP title in the low-stakes version of Event #32 ($55 Limit Hold’em Six-Max). DonkP’s final table on Saturday was good for $61,000:

3. Entropy xx – $110,000
4. DonkPredator – $61,625 (DonkP)
5. PBJaxx – $47,125

Mike SirWattsWatson (pictured at right) was the runner-up to kirbynatorin the mid-stakes edition of Event #34 ($530 Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max). The starting field numbered 774 and Watson earned $50,000 for his runner-up performance. Watson entered the final table as the second shortest stack, but after recording two eliminations, brought a 2:1 edge into heads-up play. Watson has plenty of experience, having taken down the 2008 World Poker Tour (WPT) Bellagio Cup for $1.6 million.

Joining Watson at the final table was donkcommited, who owns the 42nd spot in the Online Poker Rankings:
